New for 2020, VW has jumped on the faux coupe crossover bandwagon that’s poplar with Mercedes BMW and Audi. The Atlas Cross Sport is just a more swoopy Atlas, potentially cutting in on headroom.
It rides 2.3" lower than a standard Atlas but has the same wheelbase. The biggest difference on the Atlas Cross Sport, besides the design, is that it looses the 3rd row. Engine options are the same 2.0 turbo 4 and 276 horse V6. Inside it comes with all the typical tech that comes with vehicles these days, wireless charging, driving aid suite, big screens, which VW calls Digital Cockpit.
It hits dealers next spring.

Am i the only one who sees that rear and thinks “kia?”

Its an answer to a question no one was asking VW. Now they have a conundrum on their hands. They have the Tiguan, but it has a small 3rd row. Then they have this, which sits between the Tiguan and regular Atlas, but it has compromised headroom and cargo room due to the design, and no 3rd row. Its pointless options for buyers I don’ t know who this is supposed to be for.

Nah not really. If anything it looks more Audi like. Which was probably done on purpose to elicit those “what kind of car is that?” looks.

Extreme ‘meh’.

The design has some very Audi / Kia semblance , which makes sense since the two head designers from Audi have both gone to Kia in the last decade and their work shows across both brands and also at Audi’s sibling VW.

A 2-row version of a 3-row car?

I really thought you were joking.
Then I really hoped that you were joking.
Then I began to wonder why this and the Tiguan both exist.
Then I just drank some more.

Its German so its to be expected. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with an actual 2 door model.

I thoroughly dislike this car

I mean its apparently a new trend being reinvented. The cuv is crammed packed so what else can you do with an suv . Make it just a little smaller than the bigger one and charge the same, think about it.
Blazer uglier Traverse
Passport more expensive than a P ilot
Older 5 seater suv
Grand Cherokee to Durango
Edge to Explore
X terra to pathfinder. (Some what different but close enough)

I wish I were joking. But nope. There really isnt a point in having this when the Tiguan sits on the lot. And someone shopping for a crossover coupe thingy isnt looking at VW. They are going to the luxury brands.

I could see Audi too

That is good to know. The rake of the bag is giving me those vibes though

It literally looks like a carnival caricature of a standard Atlas.

Thats the R Line trim too. I hate when automakers release new car pics in just higher or fully loaded trims. I wanna see what a base Atlas Cross Sport SE is going to look like.
